AOC Alsace

AOC Alsace
It was created in 1962 for wines from plots that have been rigorous and precise delimitation inspired historical cores of production.
The wines of AOC Alsace, may be from a single grape variety. In this case the name of the grape variety can be indicated on the label. They can also be derived from a blend of several grape varieties sometimes called "Edelzwicker", sometimes also "Gentil".
For wines of particular typicality and meeting a higher level of requirement, the AOC name may be supplemented by a municipal geographical name or a locality name.
Alsace wines (except Crémant) are still sold in the bottle like "hock", called "flute d'Alsace", which is reserved for them by the regulation. Since 1972, they are obligatorily bottled in their region of production.
The wines of AOC Alsace are subject to continuous monitoring (organoleptic concerning the production tool: vineyard and cellar) by an independent body under the supervision of the INAO.
AOC Alsace currently represents 74% of total production, 92% white.
